DIXON, George W.
Of the firm of Dixon, Fisher & Co., dealers in hardware, Monroe. He was born in Shelby Co., OH in 1836 and came to Monroe in 1867, engaging in the hardware business. He married Miss Sarah A. HOVER in Allen Co., OH. She was born in Lima, Allen Co. Lima is situated on the Ottawa stream and was the old camping ground of the Shawnee Indians. It is the heart of the historic interest of Allen Co. It was the scene of her most exciting Indian councils and the home of half her legends and traditions. Their old Council House alone is left. It stands there yet a monument to a now forgotten and almost extinct race. During the war of the rebellion Mr. Dixon enlisted in Co F, 20th Reg. Ohio Vol. for four months. At the expiration of that time he enlisted in Co B, 81st Ohio Reg. Vo., and was promoted to first Lieutenant in June 1864, and promoted to Captain immediately afterward. He and his wife are members of the Baptist Church. They have six children (not named..JA) He is a Republican. During the time he was in the service he was in a number of battles, the principal ones were Shiloh, Resaca, Corinth and siege of Atlanta.
