CHADWICK, Thomas
Assistant Cashier of the Bank of Monroe. He was born near Manchester, England in 1832, where he remained until he was 14 years of age. He had a strong passion to engage in a sea-faring life and from his 14th until his 18th year, we find him sailing from England to India, China, Asia and Africa. In the latter country he remained one year, most of which time he was within two degrees of the equator. In 1850 he returned to England and engaged as Cashier in an importing house in Manchester, for about 4 years. He then emigrated to this country, bringing his mother, brother and sister with him. They stopped in Iowa City, IA where he engaged in the forwarding and commission business until 1862, when he was offered the position of Superintendent of the Moline Plow Works in Moline, IL which he held for four years. At the end of that time he came to Newton where he was associated with the First National Bank until 1875 when he moved to this city. He is a Republican. In 1876 he was elected Mayor of Monroe. He is the present Secretary of Fairview Lodge, A. F & A. M, is Secretary of the Gebel Chapter, R. A. M. U. D.. He married Miss LANCASTER in Tiskilwa, IL in 1852. She was born on the River Tyne, near Newcastle, Eng.
