POMROY, W. K.; Farmer and stock raiser; Sec. 13; P. O. Prairie City; was born in Erie Co., Penn., Jan. 21, 1836; came to this county in 1865; has 160 acres of land, valued at $8,000. Politics, Republican. Holds the office of President of the Agricultural Board. Married Sarah A. SMITH; she was born in Peoria Co., Ill., Dec. 28, 1843; they have three children-Leo, born April 10, 1871; Ora, Aug. 18, 1872; George J., July 27, 1875. Emigrated with his parents to Indiana, when he was 6 years old; lived there four years; thence to Mahaska Co.; lived there eighteen years, and thence to Jasper Co., where he has resided since. Enlisted in the 8th Iowa V. I., Co. H.; was in the battles of Shiloh, Pleasant Hill, siege of Vicksburg, Red River expedition; was taken prisoner at the battle of Shiloh; imprisoned at Tuscaloosa one year; endured the privation of a prison life; afterward paroled and exchanged but went back to his regiment. Mr. P. and brother has followed the business of feeding and shipping stock for nine years; has a very nice and pleasant home. ~ "The History of Jasper County" (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878), 644
