GEARY, W. T., Dr.; Physician and surgeon; Prairie City; was born in Centre Co., Penn., May 31, 1843; came to this county March 4, 1862. Married F. N. McKEAN; she was born Dec. 21, 1854. The Doctor commenced studying medicine with Dr. M. THORNELL; attended lectures at the University of Michigan; from there went to the Philadelphia University, where he received his diploma; also studied dentestry[sic]. When he came to this town there were only eight buildings in it; has grown up with the county; has a fine residence and one of the finest yards in the city; plenty of small fruit and flowers; came here with only $2.35 in his pocket and a saddle and bridle to battle against the hardships of a new country, and by close application to business has made himself a good home and comfortable circumstances. ~ "The History of Jasper County" (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878), 640
