MOORE, BROWN

MOORE, A.; Farmer, Secs. 11 and 12; P.O. Kellogg; born in Fulton Co., N. Y., in 1822; moved to Rochester, N. Y. in 1846, and to Mason Co., Ill., in 1871, and located in this county in 1873. He married Miss Martha BROWN in 1847; she was born in Madison Co., N. Y., in 1826; they have one child, an accomplished young lady, born March 28, 1855. Mrs. MOORE is a member of the Methodist Church; he is a Republican in politics. He organized Co. F, 105th New York V. I., in the Spring of 1862, and commanded it in many engagements during the war of the rebellion, including South Mountain, Va., under Banks, Second Bull Run, Va., South Mountain, Md., Antietam and Fredericksburg, Va.; in the last-named battle he was the ranking officer of his brigade effective for duty, and commanded his regiment in that battle; he was promoted to the rank of Major, and at the consolidation of his regiment with the 94th N. Y., he resigned in favor of the Major of that regiment; he had temporary command of Gen. DURYEA's brigade during the absence of that officer. He owns one-half interest in the farm he now manages, which contains 720 acres; he is seeding it down with a view of making a first-class stock farm of it. ~ "The History of Jasper County" (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878), 549.
