Mrs. Beck, whose maiden name was Anna Rebecka Haefker was born at Riede, Hanover, Germany, January 20, 1854. She spent her girlhood there and in 1872 came to America and for a short time, made her home with the family of John Schenk of Tete des Morts township. April 16, 1874, she was united in marriage to J.J. Beck of Bellevue and this city has been her home ever since. The living are: Anna K., John C. of Dubuque, Louis C., Lena M., Mary R., William G., Paul, Matilda M., Esther A., Rudolph [?], Laura L., Eugene, Julian J., Justin J., and Evelyn E.

Mrs. Beck was strictly a home body and devoted her entire attention to the careful training and rearing of a large family of children to lead noble and christian lives. Her sole concern was for their welfare and happiness and they will miss her encouragement and counsel. Her thoughtfulness and kindness was never lacking even when illness confined her to her bed. She was especially anxious that their religious training should be thorough and it was so far as she was able to make it. The sorrowing husband and children have the sympathy of the community in thei great loss.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the Lutheran church, of which the deceased was a member, and was largely attended. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The pall bearers were: Jacob Selsor, John Harms, Jacob Goetz, Henry Michels, August Setzapfandt and Thos. Sweeney.
