Mrs. Dorothea Beck, the wife of John G. Beck, who departed this life on Saturday, Sept. 16, was born September 4, 1836 at Dettingen, Wurtemberg, Germany. Coming from a Christian family, she was baptized in her early infancy and received a training in accordance with the faith of the parents. After the customary religious instruction, she was confirmed at the age of 14 years.

On February 14, she was married to John G. Beck, to whom she was, for almost 45 years, a devoted, faithful wife. Two years after their marriage, 1869, they emigrated to this country, bringing a little daughter with them. They lived for one year in Illinois, then, removing to Jackson county, Iowa, they stayed for a short time at Bellevue and thereupon settled down upon a farm in Maquoketa township where they spent 46 years of their life.

She leaves behind, her husband, two sons, George and John, from here; three daughters, Mrs. William Becker, Andrew; Mrs. Emille Bohler, McLean, Neb.; Mrs. Jacob Beck, from here; 10 grandchildren; three brothers and one sister in Germany and one sister in Kansas.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the home and interment was made at the Union Center cemetery. - Preston Times
