Dawson Funeral Held.

The funeral of the late Mrs. Joseph
Dawson was held Thursday afternoon
from the late home, Rev. J. J. Kidder

in Mt. Hope cemetery. Deceased passed
away at her home on South Second

and much of the time suffering
in pain, she was very patient and
uncomplaining, fully prepared for the end
which she expected at almost any time.

Deceased was born in Washington
county. N. Y., December 2, 1837, and
there resided until eight years of age
when she with her parents removed to
Whitewater, Wis., residing there seven
years, thence to Maquoketa, which
had since been her home. In 1866 she
was united in marriage to William
Lockwood, who passed away in 1877.
To this union were born five children.
Mrs. Ida Boff of Omaha, Neb., Frank,
deceased; Mrs. Hattie Mellish of Oxford;
Mrs. Carrie Black, Shellsburg,
Ia., and William of this city. On
Febrary 9, 1881, she was united in
marriage to Joseph Dawson, who has
been her faithful companion during
the later years of her life and who
with her children survive a kind
mother and wife. Besides these there
are fifteen grandchildren, and sixteen
great-grandchildren who mourn the
loss of their grandparent.
