John Altfillisch, was born in Germany, March 5, 1826, and came to Albany, New York in 1851, where he was married to Miss Magdalena Forner. In 1856 moved to Maquoketa where they resided until 1867 then moved on the farm where he lived until the time of his death, Feb. 17, of paralysis, aged 73 years, 11 months and 16 days. He was twice married. His first wife died in 1872. Nine children blest this union, six of whom are now living. Mrs. Adolph Drum, Mrs. Henry Drum, Mrs. Henry Dose, Mrs. P. O. Nelson, William and John F. Second wife was Mary Forner who died Aug 31, 1899, two children being born to them – Mrs. Freeman Chresler and Lissian, who are all left to morn the loss of a kind and loving father. Funeral services were at the Baptist church on Tuesday 2:00 p.m., Rev. D. F. Boomershine officiating. The remains were laid to rest in Mt. Hope cemetery, there to await the resurrection of the just.
