AN OBITUARY

Brief Sketch of the Life of the Late Mrs. Meta Fleming.
(Herald's Special Service.)
Preston, April 15 -- Mrs. Meta Fleming was born on Aug. 28, 1846. She was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Christensen Kroigaard, who lived in the northern part of Schleswig, then under the Danish rule. Her parents consecrated her to the Lord in holy baptism soon after her birth. Accordingly she was brought up in a Christian way and after having received the religious instruction was confirmed on April 14, 1862, when she became a communicant of the Evangelical Lutheran church.

The following years she spent at the home of her childhood until 1872, when she joined Christopher Paulson in marriage. About three years later, they crossed the Atlantic and came to this country, bringing their infant child with them, who, however, died shortly after their arrival. Their first home in this country was at Sabula, from where they went to farming near Sterling and later removed to Teeds Grove. Here her first husband was taken from her side through death, leaving her alone with two small boys.

Two years later she was again married to Henry Flemming and consequently made her home on the latter's place ever since. To this union were born two sons. But before the younger ones had really grown up she had seen her second husband lain in the grave, who died May 30, 1902. After this there were left to her ten years of widowhood, during which she lived with her sons and managed the place until two years ago, when she gave it over to her son Albert and retired from active life, but she still made her home with him.

She leaves to mourn her departure her four sons: Peter Paulson of Preston; Amos Paulson of Fairfield township, Elmer and Albert of Miles; one brother, Jerry Kroigaard, of Clinton; two sisters, Mrs. Celia Fulsang of Maquoketa and Mrs. Anna Fogella of Miles; nine step-children and four grand-children and a number of step-grand-children.
