Mrs. Marie Wilcke passed away Sunday evening at 5:45 at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Floyd McNeil.

Marie Stackhous was born at Waldeck, Germany, December 25, 1839, and died Sunday evening, January 28, 1923, at the age of 83 years, 1 month and 13 days. She was united in marriage in 1864 to Ludwig Wilcke, who preceded her in death in January, 1914. To this union was born five boys and one girl, two of whom passed away in infancy. Three boys and one girl survive their mother, William A. Wilcke, south of Preston; F. H. Wilcke, of Mt. Carroll, Ill.; C. H. Wilcke, of Holstein, Iowa, and Ms. Mary Longman, of Maquoketa.

In 1892 Mr. and Mrs. Wilcke and their children came to America and came directly to this part of Jackson county, where they made their home and where Mr. Wilcke engaged in the stone mason trade. They purchased a home in Preston shortly after arriving here and, with the exception of a few years, made their home in Preston.

Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Wilcke lived alone in the home until a year ago last summer when she went to live with her children. Mrs. Wilcke was very active up until the time of her last illness and took a great interest in outdoor life.

The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the home of Wm. A. Wilcke and at 1:30 from St. John's Ev. Lutheran church of Preston, with the Rev. W. P. Sandrock officiating. burial was made in the Preston cemetery.
