Dean A. Andersen, age 75, of Preston, Iowa died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, with his family at his side. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preston, with Pastor Greg Geier officiating. Burial will take place in Preston Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church prior to the service. A memorial fund has been established in Dean’s memory.

Dean was born October 30, 1939, to Arnold and Vera (Rohwedder) Andersen in Savanna, Illinois. He attended Goose Lake High School and graduated with the Class of 1957. Dean worked for International Paper as a foreman in Clinton, Iowa for thirty-seven years. On June 27, 1959, Dean married the love of his life Jeanine Christiansen at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clinton.

Dean was a member of the Preston Volunteer Fireman’s Association and the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preston. He was an outdoorsman who loved taking his annual family and friends fishing trips to Minnesota. He was an avid Bears, Cubs, Hawkeyes fan, fisherman, hunter and trapper. Dean had a passion for riding bi-cycles, especially participating in fourteen Ragbrai trips across Iowa with friends and family. Dean treasured the time he spent with his wife ballroom dancing at Two Mile and Fairyland. Dean and his wife were active bowlers, and golfers and belonged to many courses over the years. After his stroke in 2006 he cherished going to places, spending time with his family and telling jokes to anyone who would listen. Dean’s grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Dean will be dearly missed by his wife Jeanine; daughter, Sheryl (Brian Ganzer) Sullivan of Preston, Iowa; two sons, Neal (Terri) Andersen of Preston, Michael (Christa) Andersen of Bettendorf, Iowa; six grandchildren, Ben (Amanda) Sullivan, Brandy (Dwayne Howell) Sullivan, Tayler Andersen, Nathan Andersen, Jadie Andersen, Joseph (Nora) Wenzel; great-grandchildren, Hailey Bailey, Wyatt Sullivan, Caleb Howell, Howie Wenzel; two brothers, Larry (Connie) Andersen of Clinton, Randy (Darlene) Andersen of Tempe, Arizona. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barb Whitney; one brother, Ron Andersen and nephew, Steven Andersen.
