DEATH OF AGED GREEN ISLAND LADY
-
Mrs. Caroline Becker Passes Away Thursday of Last Week After a Short Illness
-
The late Mrs.Caroline Becker (Hasselhuhn), sic., was born June 15 1825 at Frankenhausen, Germany. She had been baptized in her infancy and confirmed when 13 years old in the Ev. Luth. church.
In 1850, she was joined in marriage to Karl Becker, and became the mother of six sons, five having been born in the old country and the youngest in America. On the 4th of August, 1865, they emigrated to this country, making their home at first at Sterling, ILL., where they lived for about 10 years. After this they removed to Webster City, Iowa, where her husband and two other married sons, Herman and Frank died. Since then she lived as a widow, and coming to Green Island some eight years ago, made her home with her youngest son, John. From this time on old age began to assert itself. The final illness however, lasted only for two weeks, bringing about her dissolution early in the morning on Thursday, May 25th, at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 10 days.
She leaves behind her four sons, August from here; William, of Webster City; Louis, of Beloit, Wis., and John, of Green Island, besides 29 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, at 2 p.m., from the Congregational church at Green Island, by Rev. Srugles, and interment made at Reeseville. H.S.
