Harry Mark Chaplain, 24, died Jan. 19, 1978 in his home in rural Baldwin. Services were held Monday, Jan. 23 with the Rev. Howard Buenting of the Andrew Salem Lutheran church officiating. Burial was in the Oakwood cemetery, Monticello.

Chaplin was born May 12, 1953 in Monticello, the son of Paul and Donna Patten Chaplain.

He married Linda Bowman on June 16, 1973 in Maquoketa. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and was a counselor for the Quad City Drug abuse council. He was also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Survivors include his wife, his parents of Maquoketa, his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Rollo Patten, Viola, one sister, Mrs. Robert (Janel) Mueller, Charleston, S.C., and two brothers, Michael J. and Timothy P., both of Maquoketa.
