Maquoketa Man Dies
Of Heart Attack.

News of the death of Mr. James J. Stokesbury, 61, came as a distinct shock to Otter Creek relatives and friends. Death came as the result of a sudden heart attack while preparing to drive a car from the P. F. Henney home in Maquoketa to the home of his nephew north of town, about 3 o’clock Saturday morning, April 13, 1934. Mr. Stokesbury was born in Otter Creek October 1, 1869 and spent his boyhood here. In June 1898, he married Miss Mary Martin of Otter Creek, and the greater part of his life since then had been lived in Council Bluffs. His wife died in December 1930, and for the past six months he has spent his time among relatives here and in Maquoketa.

He is survived by one brother, Jerry Stokesbury, of Otter Creek and two sisters, Mrs. John Ryan, Maquoketa, and Mrs. Thomas Ryan, Fremont, Nebraska and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral was held from the home of his sister to St. Lawrence Church at Otter Creek, Monday morning, April 16 where Rev. J. A. Mullen of Maquoketa officiated at the Requiem High Mass and preached the sermon. The Rev. P. McNamara, pastor of St. Lawrence’s Church, was in the sanctuary. Burial was made in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Otter Creek, where Father Mullen and Father McNamara officiated,
