Gary Bjarnson, 85, of Lake Carroll, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 1st, 2022, after holidays filled with laughter, memories, and visits with the closest of family and friends. A private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Serenity Hospice and Home.

Gary Leon Bjarnson was born to Antonette and Margus Bjarnson on December 11, 1936, in Oakland, California. When he was 10 years old his father passed away. He took on a paper route to help support his family, and won numerous top sales awards. He often worked two jobs to put himself through studies at UC Berkley where he earned a Master’s Degree in Business. He joined the Ford Motor Company as a trainee foreman at the San Jose, California, assembly plant, and ultimately became the youngest Controller of the largest plant in Lorain, Ohio. After a successful career at Ford, Gary was also the Chief Financial officer for several Fortune 500 companies.

Gary has been a property owner at Lake Carroll for 33 years and retired there in 1998. He was an active member of his community serving as Treasurer of the Rolling Hills Foundation, Lake Carroll POA board member and member of Lanark United Methodist Church.

While Gary held many accomplished professional roles, his favorite role was as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to those he leaves behind. He was a world traveler both for business and pleasure. He served as water ski instructor, comedian, and number one fan to his children and grandchildren. He was also a master breakfast chef, trusted advisor, and a great source of happiness for those close to him. He was always busy in his garden and fixing or building things.

He fought through this year and the family cherishes every moment spent with him during this time. Always goal oriented, he lived to see his 85th birthday, celebrate his 64th wedding anniversary, and one final Christmas and New Years.

Gary is survived by his wife, Dixie Bjarnson of Lake Carroll; four children, Theresa Ann Bjarnson of Melrose Park, IL, Karin (Kevin) Lynn Christ of Corinth, TX, Eric (Stephanie) Martin Bjarnson of Freeport, IL, and Marc (Michele) William Bjarnson of Downers Grove, IL; eight granddaughters and one great-grandson.
