Helen Kinrade (1925-2021)

Helen M. Kinrade, 96 formerly of Maquoketa passed away on Saturday, July 10th, 2021

surrounded by generations of family members in the days and hours leading up to her passing at home where she lived with her daughter and son in law in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Her funeral service will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021 at 10:00 am at the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. A visitation will be held July 25th from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Dawson Funeral Home in Maquoketa. Celebration of Life Reception July 25th from 6 to 8:30pm at Maquoketa Country Club for family and friends. Burial will take place at Elwood Cemetery in Elwood.

Helen was born on March 15, 1925 at her home in Lost Nation, Iowa to Elwin and Clella (Galloway) Herkelmann. Helen graduated from Elwood High School, class of 1942. On April 14, 1943 she was united in marriage to the love of her life Robert (Bob) Kinrade, they were happy married for 40 years until Bobs untimely death in 1983. After Bob returned from WWII, the couple returned to farming in the Elwood/Delmar areas. They moved to Goose Lake in 1957 and operated The Kinrade Feed and Supply Company before joining Accent Homes of DeWitt IA. Working alongside her husband, the couple, assisted many residents of Clinton and Jackson Counties build their dream homes.

Upon moving to Maquoketa in the 70’s, Helen also volunteered for several years for the board of elections in Jackson county, the Maquoketa hospital, and meals on wheels. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hospice Auxiliary, ONO card club, the Red Hats, the Maquoketa Country Club and First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa.

Helen loved traveling around the country, abroad, and especially cruises. She enjoyed playing and watching golf as well as keeping up with family and friends on Facebook and a good game of euchre with friends at Dorchester. Every fall she cheered on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Carolina Panthers as an avid fan of both. She walked miles each day up until the last year of her life.

Helen will be shining down on her four children, 11 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. Sons, Tom (and Eunice) Kinrade and their two daughters and four grandchildren, of Littleton, CO, Ron (and Paula) Kinrade with their two daughters and three grandchildren, of Camanche, IA. Helen’s daughters’ Marlene (and Rusty) Stark with a daughter and son, and one grandson of Grand Junction CO, and Linda (and Jeff) Revier and their three daughters, two sons, and 11 grandchildren of Charlotte NC. Special family Judy (Dan) David and family, and Bonnie (Ron Baker) Hanson.

Also Helen loved her nieces, nephews and extended family with all her heart.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters (Mary Weets and Zelda Dostal) and longtime friend Gilbert Hanson.
