Sylvester N. Arensdorf, 82, died Tuesday morning, May 9, 2000, in Crestridge Nursing Home, Maquoketa, after a lingering illness.

Graveside services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Andrew Cemetery, by the Rev. Clair Odell of First United Methodist Church, Maquoketa. Friends may call from 5 to 7 tonight at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa.

Sylvestor was born on January 24, 1918 in Jackson County, Iowa, to Matt Arensdorf and Julia Haiar Arensdorf. He married Ruby Chase on August 29, 1952 in Clinton, Iowa. Mr. Arensdorf was a self-employed carpenter for many years. He later did maintenance work for the Jackson County Fairgrounds for over 10 years. He enjoyed working on and restoring cars, being a handyman and watching TV. He enjoyed listening to polka music.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby; a son, Larry of Maquoketa; two daughters, Julia Bertling of Wheatland and Tina Miller of Andrew; and a brother, Arnie of Dubuque.
