Jane Hastings, age 63, of Maquoketa, IA, passed away Monday, April 5th, surrounded by her loved ones. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Jane was born January 21st, 1958, daughter of Donald and JoAnn (McNeil) Kunde. She was the 5th of 10 children. As a child Jane and her family moved throughout Eastern Iowa, eventually settling in Preston. Jane met the love of her life, Frank Hastings with the encouragement of Jane’s older sister Donna, and Frank’s friend Al. This would prove to be the best decision of their lives. Together Jane and Frank raised two children and celebrated 47 years of marriage.

Jane’s home was the heart of the family. It would be where family and friends spent much of their time enjoying each other's company.

Jane’s family was most important to her. She loved being a mother and grandmother. She always took the opportunity to spend time with her granddaughters. She was known as the fun grandma. Jane would often pick up the grandkids in her convertible, shouting over the hum of the engine “Who wants Dairy Queen!”. For the last 20 years, Jane’s granddaughters were always her first thought. She was a compassionate mother, and a loving grandmother. Jane’s passionate and loving nature lives on in her family and those she held close.

Jane had a great sense of humor and contagious laughter. She lit up every room she entered. For the last eight years of her life, she lived with a cancer diagnosis but never allowed it to stop her from living or loving life to its fullest.

Jane will be dearly missed by her husband, Frank Hastings; two children, Andrew (Liz) Hastings of Rochester, MN, and JoEllen (Scott) Valentine of Dubuque, IA; three grandchildren, Sophie Hastings, Kayla Valentine, and Elaina Valentine; eight siblings, Margie (Bob) Donatsch of Maquoketa, Donald (Kathy) Kunde of Maquoketa, Diane (Dave) Giddings of Preston, Susie (Darwin) Bushaw of Edgewood, Ronald (Terri) Kunde of Preston, Bernice (Clay) Hamilton of Galena, IL, Dwaine (Jodi Feller) Kunde of Preston, and Annette (Tom Wagner) Kunde of Edgewood; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and several brother and sister in-laws.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents Donald and JoAnn and her sister Donna.

In lieu of flowers/gifts, the family would prefer a donation be made to Hospice of Jackson County in Jane’s name.
