George Bradway was born in New Jersey, Feb. 2, 1843, and passed away at the Becker hospital Tuesday Oct. 26, 1920, at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 24 days.
In 1857, he came to Jackson county and settled near Esgate, where he resided until about a year ago when he moved to Maquoketa. At the outbreak of the Civil war in 1861, when the first call for volunteers was sent out by President Lincoln, he enlisted. He served through the entire four years of the war and received an honorable discharge when it was over. Mr. Bradway was an ardent patriot, always interested in the affairs of the country and always willing to do his part. His country could rely on him for aid in the greatest crisis in its history and his friends always found him not less trustworthy in time of need.
Mr. Bradway's only surviving immediate relatives is his nephew, Orizal Robinson of Perry, Ia. He has more distant relatives who with a host of friends mourn his loss.
Funeral services were held at the Esgate church Friday afternoon, Rev. E. A. Lang pastor of the M. E. church of this city officiating. Interment was made in the Esgate cemetery.
