Richard L. Graham Sr., 92, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Friday afternoon, October 16, 2020, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus from complications of COVID 19.

A celebration of his life is pending and will be announced at a later date. A private family graveside service and burial will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded. There is no public visitation. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.

Richard Lee Graham Sr. was born on October 16, 1928 in Michigan City, Indiana, to Clyde and Ida (McConnell) Graham. He grew up and attended school in Peru, Indiana. He served three terms in the military with the U.S. Army earning an honorable discharge. He married Cathy Goerg on May 12, 1986 in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Upon returning to Indiana following his military service, Richard worked for a steel mill before moving to Iowa in 1982. He then worked in the janitorial department at WALMART and later McDonald’s in Maquoketa, prior to retirement.

Richard was a former longtime member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club in Maquoketa, and a lifetime member of both the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75, and the Maquoketa VFW Post #3633 O’Connor-Regenwether. He was an avid bowler for many years and loved playing Bingo.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Cathy Graham of Maquoketa, IA; children, Tina (Tom Rorah) Melow of Maquoketa, IA, Roberta “Robi” (Arnold) Brewer of Maquoketa, IA, and Richard (Hannah) Graham Jr. of Lost Nation, IA; an adopted son, Sam (Heather) Logan-Graham of Canada; grandchildren Jeremy, Latasha, Tanner, William, Daniel, Colton, Evan, Carley, Braxton, and Braylynn; and great-grandchildren Makail, Merlin, and Rebel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 4 sisters, and 2 adopted children Robert Logan-Graham and James Logan-Graham.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Richard L. Graham memorial fund has been established.
