Emil Schoop (1929-2013)

Emil R. Schoop, 84 of 32952 230th Ave La Motte, Iowa passed away on Tuesday June 18, 2013 at home surrounded by his family.

Services will be at 10:30a.m. Friday June 21st at St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Donatus with Rev. Shane Koepke officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, St. Donatus. Friends may call from 4:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. Thursday June 20th at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd. Friends may also call after 8:30a.m. Friday at the funeral home until time of services.

Emil was born on April 3, 1929 in LaMotte, Iowa the son of John and Mamie (Schnoor) Schoop. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956.

He married Loreen Knief on October 5, 1957 at St. John's Lutheran Church in St. Donatus. He worked construction in Chicago prior to farming in the LaMotte area with his wife Loreen for 40 years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Donatus.

Emil enjoyed fishing at his pond and at the lake in Arizona. He loved to golf and play cards with family and friends. He especially enjoyed his winters in Arizona for the past ten plus years with his Arizona family.

He is survived by his wife Loreen, three children; Nancy (David) Dodge, of LaMotte, Deb (Tom) Decker, of Bellevue, and Randy (Barb) Schoop, of Dubuque. Grandchildren; Rachel, Kris, Kate, Nick, Adam, Corey, and Jacob. One great grandchild Cecilia. His sister Eleanor (Leonard) Clark, a brother Robert (Bernice) Schoop, sisters-in-law Donna (Willard) Felderman, Lorraine Knief, and Pauline Schoop

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John Schoop, Fred Schoop, Arthur Schoop, Harold Miller, and Blaine Miller, and a sister Dorothy McCrosky.

The family wishes to thank the ICU nurses and staff at UnityPiont Health, Finley Hospital, Hospice of Jackson County and to Kayla at Luther Manor for all their wonderful care they gave to Emil.
