SPENCERVILLE--Funeral services for Mrs. John Knake were held at the Methodist church in Monmouth Friday, Dec. 22, at 2 o'clock. Rev. Henry Mueller, pastor of the First Lutheran church in Maquoketa, officiated. Mrs. Lee Allen and Mrs. D. A. Orris accompanied by Mrs. R. C. Best sang "Sweetly Resting" and "In The Garden".

Janette Elizabeth Burns was born in Leith, Scotland, Jan. 5, 1873. She was married to John E. Knake, June 7, 1899, who preceded her in death, Feb. 1936. They came to this country July, 1905 and had lived near Monticello and Monmouth the remaining part of her life. She was the mother of eight children, William, born in Scotland, Henry, Edward, Mrs. Ann Winters, and Alma, Two sons died in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Gibson, passed away March, 1928 leaving an infant daughter, Janette, who has made her home with her grandmother. Mrs. Knake had been ill for many years, and on Nov. 23, was taken to the University hospital, Iowa City, where she died Dec. 19, following a serious operation. Burial was made int he Monmouth cemetery.

Pall bearers were James Post, John Fritz, Joe, and George Agnitch, Charlie Sheldon and Sam Propst. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Charlie Sheldon and Ralph Propst. Those attending from a distance were Mrs. Anna Gerds and daughter, Lauretta, Monticello, Mrs. Henry Siebels, Anamosa, and Mrs. Edward M. Knake, Cedar Rapids.
