DIED-It was with feelings of sorrow that we are obliged to chronicle the death of our friends and fellow citizen, George A. Cook, of Washington Mills, Iowa, which occurred at 1 o’clock p.m., Wednesday, April 10th 1895, after an illness which lasted through several months. Deceased was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Cook, and was born at Alvalvan, Howard County, Md., February 27th, 1856, and was therefore about 36 years of age at the time of his death.

In 1860 he came west with is parents who settled on a farm in Washington Mills, and with whom he resided until the time of his death. His surviving relatives are his father and four sisters, Mary, Agnes, and Annie, at home, and Mrs. Richard Redmond, of Castle Grove, Iowa. His mother died in 1887.

The subject of this sketch was a man of many excellent qualifications of character and Christian virtues. His holy religion was like the beautiful companion of his boyhood, the blessed assurance of his middle age and whose magic influence made the closing hour of his well spent life glide peacefully away. His disposition at home was that of sunny cheerfulness, which made him a shining light in the family circle where he will be sadly missed by his father and sisters, whose tender affection for him during his long sickness soothed his mind ad removed the bitter sting from death. With his neighbors and friends he was highly esteemed for his honesty and integrity.

The funeral, which was of the largest seen in this vicinity for years, was held Friday from his residence to S. Patrick’s Church, Garry Owen, Rev. Father Kelly officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near by.

The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: Nicholas Redmond, John Biggins, Michael Donahue, William Cannon, Peter Feeney and J. M. Donahue.
