Obituary for Lorraine Hansen
Lorraine Hansen, age 81, of Miles, IA, passed away, February 18th, 2020, at the Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, IA. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 24th, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23rd, at the church, as well as one hour prior to the service.
Lorraine was born March 3rd, 1938, in Springbrook, IA, the daughter of Urban and Algean (Feltes) Jacobs. She grew up on the family farm, the oldest of three children. While in town one day she met the love of her life, Delbert Hansen, selling eggs from his chickens. Lorraine and Delbert married on November 29th, 1969. The couple moved to Delbert’s farm, not far from where Lorraine was raised. They were always a farming team, sharing the chores and duties that came with running a farm. They celebrated 47 years of marriage until Delbert’s passing in 2017.
Lorraine will be remembered as caring, loving, and patient. She loved being a grandma, and cherished the time she spent with her three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was always taking pictures of the children. Every month from birth to one year of age, Lorraine would photograph her grandchildren to track their growth. She would cook and bake, better than anyone. On every birthday she would make a prized angel food cake. Lorraine had a deep faith in the Lord, and was an active member of St Joseph’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed her time planning for events in the parish hall, playing cards, and socializing with her friends.
Lorraine will be dearly missed by her son, David (Michell) Hansen of Miles; three grandchildren, Justin (Christina) Hansen of DeWitt, Evan Hansen of Miles, and Darin Hansen, of Miles; great-granddaughter, Emma Hansen; and her brother, Richard (Judy) Jacobs of Dubuque. Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, Urban and Algene, and her brother Marvin.
