Michael “Dumps” Tebbe, age 62, of Clinton, IA, formerly of Preston, IA, passed away at his home Sunday, February 16th, 2020. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 21st, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20th, at the church, as well as one hour prior to the service.
Mike was born in Maquoketa, IA, November 6th, 1957, son of Richard and Elgene (Feller) Tebbe. He attended and graduated from Preston High School. Mike married Kathleen Boehmer in 1988. The couple would later divorce. In September of 2019 Mike became engaged to Bridget LePrevost.
Mike was a skilled craftsman. Known for working as a brick layer, but was able to fix almost anything. He would work with stone, wood, metal, and more. If you had something that needed repaired Mike was the man for the job. Anytime he visited family or friends he would find something he could fix. Even at family gatherings he would be repairing some part of the host’s house.
Mike was hard working, and would work six days a week, every week. When building the Thomson prison Mike had decided to put in some extra hours one day. All the other workers had left, leaving Mike alone. After he had finished his job, Mike went to leave, only to find he was locked in the prison. He waved at passing cars, but with no luck, and stayed in the prison for several hours.
In Mike’s free time he enjoyed caring for his blue 67 Camero. He also liked to fish, hunt, and watch westerns, specifically Gun Smoke. Later in life Mike became an avid baker. His family grew to enjoy and expect either a pie, monster bar, pumpkin bar, or cinnamon roll anytime they saw him. According to everyones accounts, no matter what he baked it was delicious. Mike was a Union Bricklayer and a member of AA for nine years.
Mike will be dearly missed by his fiancé, Bridget LePrevost of Clinton; three children, Trevan Tebbe of Preston, Bridget Boehmer of Charlotte, IA, and Kelsi (Patrick) Taggart of Cedar Rapids, IA; four grandchildren; two brothers, Dave (Denise) Tebbe, and Mark (Brenda) Tebbe; and two sisters, Doris (Gary) Roling, and Nacy (Kevin) Mathena. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Elgene; his brother, Greg; and several close friends.
