Marie E. Heinrich, 95, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday morning, November 9, 2019, at her home.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 16, 2019, at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019, from 4 to 7 P.M. at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.

Marie Eleanor Goettler was born on November 16, 1923 on the family farm north of Andrew, Iowa to Henry and Magdalena (Reiss) Goettler. She graduated from Andrew High School in 1941 and then took normal training at the University of Dubuque where she earned her Teaching Certificate. She then taught in rural schools for several years.

On February 10, 1945 she married Marcel Heinrich in Andrew, Iowa. After Marcel returned from the service they began farming where she helped with the operation. In 1954, they moved to their present farm northwest of Maquoketa. Marie milked for over 50 years and enjoyed cultivating corn until her retirement in 2007. Marcel preceded her in death on September 2, 1983.

Marie was a longtime active member of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, and the Jackson County Historical Society. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening, flowers, painting buildings, bird watching, and refinishing furniture.
