Judith Ann Herkelman, 79, of Henderson, Nevada and formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at her home.

Friends and family may gather in remembrance of Judith from 4 to 7 P.M. on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Judith Ann Wolf was born on March 2, 1940 in Marysville, California, to Henry and Edith (Knight) Wolf. She grew up in California where she graduated high school and received her nurses training. She met her future husband, Dr. Paul Gjerstad while he was stationed in the military where she was working. They were married in Carmel, California on October 31, 1968 and to this union four children were born: Becky, Matt, Nick and Nate. Paul preceded her in death on December 7, 1976. She later married Terre Herkelman on August 4, 1978 in Maquoketa, Iowa.

After Paul's military service ended, they moved to Maquoketa where Paul practiced medicine and she became a homemaker. Upon Paul's passing in 1976, she worked as a nurse at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa until 1992. She and Terre then moved to Las Vegas where she continued to work as a nurse for the Desert Lane Care Center until a few years ago.

Judith enjoyed casinos and gambling, reading books, crossword puzzles, traveling, watching sports, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Those left to honor Judith's memory include her husband, Terre Herkelman of Henderson, NV; children, Becky (Bill) Divis of Cedar Rapids, IA, Matt (Lisa) Gjerstad of Las Vegas, NV, Nick Gjerstad of Clinton, IA, Nate (Bobbie) Gjerstad of Maquoketa, IA, Jeff (Lisa) Herkelman of Hennepin, IL, Joe Herkelman of Clinton, IA, Jay (Leslie) Herkelman of Coffeyville, KS, and Lisa (Kevin) Pierce of Las Vegas, NV; 16 grandchildren, Hannah, Ethan, Donovan, Isiah, Brady (Jade), Michaela (Cody), Carter, Ayden, Harper, Spencer, Connor (Meagan), Heather, Abby, Emma, Halle, and Alexander. She was preceded in death by her parents Hank and Edith Wolf, mother-in-law and father-in-law Eva and Buster Herkelman, first husband Dr. Paul Gjerstad, and a great-grandson Logan.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Judith Ann Herkelman memorial fund.
