Maquoketa, Ia., July 9--We are pained to announce the passing away of Mrs. Sarah Hurst, widow of the late Senator Alfred Hurst, at her home at Hurstville, at 10 o'clock last night. Deceased was born at Richmond, Va., Dec. 13, 1862, and was aged 64 years, 6 months and 26 days.

No funeral arrangements have been announced as yet.

Maquoketa, Ia. July 11--A gentle kind motherly soul went to rest Sunday evening when Mrs. Hurst passed away. All who knew her loved her. The funeral was held from the home at Hurstville this afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. H. C. Bossier of St. Mark's church officiated. The remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Miss Sarah Lary was born in Rockingham county, Va., December 12, 1851, and passed away at her home in Hurstville Sunday, July 8, 1917. She came to Iowa in 1868, locating at Davenport, Iowa. On December 12, 1873, she was united in marriage to Hon. Alfred Hurst who passed away on March 25, 1915. To this union were born six children, all of whom survive: Charles F., Abram A., Mrs. L. L. Riggs, William J. of Maquoketa; Mrs. Manford B. Hunter of Waterloo, Ia., and Harry J. of Hurstville. Besides these are four brothers and one sister.

Maquoketa, Iowa, July 12--Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock Maquoketa and the surrounding country folks turned out to show their esteem and high appreciation of the good and gentle widow of the late Senator Alfred Hurst whose remains were laid to rest beside her husband in Mt. Hope cemetery. The many kind deeds she did during her beautiful life will be remembered by scores of needy people, to whom she had lent a helping hand by bygone days.
