Maquoketa, Ia. August 21--Lyman Graves committed suicide at about 10 o'clock Sunday night, by shooting himself in the stomach, the ball passing through his body, and coming out of his back.

Mr. Graves had been in poor health for several years, and had become despondent. He had often threatened to take his own life it is said. Nevertheless when the news spread about the city Maquoketa residents were greatly shocked.

A jury was impaneled by Justice James Ralston, who rendered a verdict to the effect that the deceased had come to his death by his own hand.

Maquoketa, Iowa, Aug. 22--Lyman Graves, who took his own life Sunday night while despondent over illness, was born in Maquoketa, Iowa, January 17, 1886, and spent his entire boyhood and the great part of his life in this community. He learned the barber trade when he attained manhood and became very skillful in his chosen vocation. He was united in marriage about eight years ago to Miss Mabel Shebrau, at Beloit, Wis., and for a time after their marriage resided in this city where he followed his trade, and made many friends by his courteous jovial ways. About seven years ago his health failed him, since which time he has traveled extensively in effort to find a cure, but it seemed that there was no treatment that would call forth a favorable response. For the past two years he has made his home with his brother and father, and had intended to go to Arizona next month to join his wife, who resides there at present. He leaves besides his wife, his father, Hiram Graves, and two brothers, Ralph at home and Eugene of Clinton.
