Bellevue, Ia. Sept. 13--The friends of Mrs. John Merkle were sorry to learn of her death which occurred at the home of her son at Perry, Iowa, last Friday. The body was brought here on the early train Sunday morning and the funeral was held from the Presbyterian church in the afternoon, conducted by Rev. Lochard of Miles. She was born in Pennsylvania fifty-five years ago and came with her parents to McGregor, Ia., where 35 years ago she was married. Three years later they came to Bellevue, where they lived until six years ago, when they move to Des Moines, where she lived until stricken with that dread disease, cancer, for which she submitted to an operation over a year ago in the hospital there. Later she went east to try for relief and cure, but to no avail, and she came back home, and later it seemed best to go to the home of her son, where everything was done that could be to make her as comfortable as possible. She leaves her aged mother, husband, two sons and one daughter. The lady was tenderly laid to rest in the Presbyterian cemetery.
