Howard L. Johnson, 94, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday evening, May 1, 2019, at Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A celebration of Howard's life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11:15 A.M. at the funeral home. Cremation will take place and burial will be in the East Iron Hill Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa, with military honors.

Howard Luke Johnson was born on April 14, 1925 in Monmouth, Iowa, to Harry and Angeline (Edwards) Johnson. He was educated in Monmouth and then served his country in the Army Air Corps in World War II, receiving an honorable discharge. He married Norma L. Hute on July 10, 1945 in Kahoka, Missouri.

Howard first worked for Claude Harrington as a fuel deliveryman and also wired houses on his own. He then worked for Clinton Engines in the die cast department for several years. Upon Clinton Engines closing, he became plant manager of several die cast companies all over the Midwest. He then moved to Wiggins, Colorado where he owned and operated a well-drilling company. In retirement, he managed several trailer parks in both DeWitt and Maquoketa.

Howard was a member of the Eagles Club in Maquoketa. He enjoyed golfing, shooting pool, and antiquing. He also enjoyed RV traveling and camping for 30 years all over the United States with his wife Norma.

Those left to honor Howard's memory include his children, John (Linda) Johnson of Fond du Lac, WI, Janna (Terry) Kaufman of Maquoketa, IA, Julie (Al) Thole of Maquoketa, IA and Susan (Ken) Cole of Reno, NV; 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 9 sisters and his wife Norma on February 4, 2012.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Howard L. Johnson memorial fund has been established.
