(Special Correspondence)
Maquoketa, Ia. Oct. 2--Julius C. Pfieffer at 6 o'clock yesterday morning put an end to his existence in a horrible manner. Saturday he attended to his responsible duties as head engineer at the Electric Light plant and seemed to be in a very pleasant mood, the same as he was Sunday morning when he got up a few minutes before he committed the awful deed. He left the house, went to the barn and immediately shot himself under the jaw, the bullet coming out under the eye and tearing the face almost completely. He left a note saying he was going to do the act, with instructions how to dispose of the little he had.The unfortunate man was born Feb. 12th, 1856, making him about 50 years old, and came here with his family from Wisconsin last December. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss. He carried $1,000 insurance in the Woodmen.
