16 May 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

Maquoketa, Ia. May 16--Mrs. J. Suthers was born April 2nd, 186? at Onawa, Iowa, and in the fall of 1869 moved with her parents to Maquoketa, where she grew to womanhood. On April 20, 1886, she was united in marriage to B. F. Stengel, after which they made their home in Wall Lake for several years, then removed to this city, where they resided for about eight years, moving to Wichita Falls, Texas, nine years ago, at which place they have since made their home.

Mrs. Stengal's death came as a great shock to friends there as well as relatives and friends here as she had been ill but a few days and her illness was not considered serious until a few hours before the end came.

Besides her bereaved husband, she leaves to mourn her untimely death three children, Eugene, Echo and Fred, all at home, also one sister, Miss Hulda Suthers of this city and three brothers, Abraham, Dee and Hiram, also of this city.

The remains were brought to this city for burial, arriving here yesterday morning at 11 o'clock, and the funeral services were held from the home of her brother Dee Suthers in the Fourth ward this morning at 8 o'clock, Rev. C. W. Fletcher officiating. Interment was made in the family lot in Oakview cemetery at Welton. Two children, Fred and Echo, accompanied the remains of their mother here, the husband and other child being unable to make the trip on account of illness.
