Maquoketa, May 8--Seth Elsworth Prior departed this life May 6, 1916, at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 17 days, having been born Oct. 13, 1832. He was a highly esteemed retired farmer who made his home at his son-in-law's, Henry Kruse, on West Platt street.

Funeral at the home at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. Interment at Van Buren.

Maquoketa, Ia. May 9--The funeral services of Seth Elsworth Prior were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Kruse, this morning at 9 o'clock. Rev. C. W. FLetcher officiated and the body was laid to rest in Van Buren cemetery. Mr. Prior lost his sight about four years ago and has been patiently waiting for the end since then, but had close friends who enjoyed visiting with the kind old gentleman.

Seth Elsworth Prior, son of Erastes and Mary Prior, (maiden name Burnham), was born near Cauthoga Falls, Summit county, Ohio, October 13, 1832, and at the age of twenty years was married to Miss Elizabeth Wall and in the summer of 1853, with his parents, emigrated to Jackson county, Iowa, where he has lived ever since except eleven years that he lived with his daughter, Mrs. Hattie Harrison, in Lyons, Iowa.

His wife preceded him to the grave on July 6, 1910. To them were born four daughters, Hattie, Mary, Myra and Cora, the two latter having also preceded him.

He leaves to mourn his death one brother, O. B. Prior of Miles, Iowa, and the families of Mrs. Hattie Harrison and Mrs. H. W. Kruse of Maquoketa, Iowa, with whom he had made his home for the last twelve years. Also five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
