Gerald L. Rockwell, 81, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on January 6, 2019, under the care of Hospice of Jackson County at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A celebration of Gerald's life will be held at 11:45 A.M., Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa Cemetery, with military honors.

Gerald Leroy Rockwell was born on April 9, 1937 in Jackson County, Iowa, to Clifford and Sabina (Rommert) Rockwell of rural Maquoketa. He graduated from Onslow High School in 1954. Days later he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from May 1954 to May 1957. He then married Phyllis Snyder on February 14, 1958 at the Presbyterian Church in Onslow, Iowa. They enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. Gerald retired from Bird Chevrolet in Dubuque as an auto body repairman.

He was a member of the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75, 40 & 8 club, and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club in Maquoketa. He liked traveling, hunting, fishing, spending time with friends, and took extreme pride in being with family and cherished his time with them.

Those left to honor his memory and will miss him dearly include his wife Phyllis Rockwell of Maquoketa, IA; three children, Loren (Patty) Rockwell, LeAnn (John) Widel, and Stacey (Darcie) Rockwell, all of Maquoketa, IA; seven grandchildren, Abby, Blake, Lexi, Aubrey, Jordan, Evan and Logan; several grand fur babies that he adored; and two sisters-in-law, Ethel Rockwell and Lila Snyder. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Carroll, four sisters Frances, Jeanette, Vesta and Ellen, grandson Aaron Widel, and a very close family friend Maxine Scheibe.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Gerald L. Rockwell memorial fund has been established.
