Obituary for Mary Frondle
Mary “Toddie” Frondle, age 87, of Sabula, Iowa passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at home in Sabula with her family by her side. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston, Iowa. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Sabula, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston, with a Scripture Wake service at 7:00 p.m.

Mary was born March 27, 1931, in Brown Station, Iowa, the daughter of Orie and Anna (Banowetz) McCloy. She is a 1948 graduate of the Delmar High School, where she played guard on the 1948 Iowa State Championship team. On June 22, 1950, Mary married David Frondle in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They raised eight children and celebrated 40 years of marriage until David’s passing in 1991.

Mary’s first job was as a housekeeper for Manita Ebersoll in Delmar. She later worked at several restaurants in the Sabula and Savanna area, retiring in 2006 from the Kountry Kettle in Savanna. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston and past member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Sabula, where she cooked for many Church retreats. She and her husband, David, also portrayed Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus for several years, making sure many kids had a fun Christmas. Mary also served as an EMT and Fyrette in Sabula, along with helping with the Boy Scouts.

Mary will be dearly missed by her seven children, Pamela Frondle of Sabula, Patricia (Logan) Cram of Miles, Nancy Frondle of Clinton, Dennis Frondle of Clinton, Mary (Loren) Snyder of Clinton, Teresa Frondle of Clinton, and Connie Frondle (fiancé Juan Garcia) of Clinton; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Gerlach; a daughter-in-law, Lorena Frondle, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents Orie and Anna; husband David; son, Frank; and five brothers, Robert, James, Joseph, Eugene and LaVerne; two sisters, Katherine Fuque and Janice McCloy, and a granddaughter, Tosha Holt.
