Donald W. DeLarm, 94, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday evening, October 9, 2018, at the Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A celebration of Donald's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, October 15, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. A private family viewing will be held. There is no public visitation. Burial will be at the Sutton Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa, with military honors.

Donald Willis DeLarm was born on November 11, 1923 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Willis and Ruby (Taylor) DeLarm. He grew up in Jackson and Clinton Counties and then entered the U.S. Army where he received an honorable discharge and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. While stationed in Germany during World War II he met his future wife, Gertrud Dora Schmidt. They were married on September 11, 1948 in Bremen, Germany. She preceded him in death on December 16, 2009.

Donald worked for various factories throughout the years including Clinton Engines, and had also served as the janitor at the Maquoketa Country Club, and lastly worked for Precision Metal Works in Maquoketa. He had also worked as a farm hand for area farmers for many years.

Donald was a member of the Fulton Community Church, Andrew AMVETS Post #62, Maquoketa VFW Post #3633 O'Connor-Regenwether, and the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75.

Donald enjoyed fishing, gardening, and archery. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed selling worms through his worm farm "S & D Worms".

Those left to honor Donald's memory include his children, Barbara (Chris) Berner of Lost Nation, IA, Rosemary (David) Knoebel of Maquoketa, IA and Wilhelm "Bill" (Karla) DeLarm of Maquoketa, IA; 10 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; a brother Richard (Delores) DeLarm of Onslow, IA; sisters Margaret Lovely of Maquoketa, IA, and Judy Ray of Bettendorf, IA; sisters-in-law, Phyllis DeLarm and Janet DeLarm; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raymond (Ruth), David, Carl, and Charles (Brenda) DeLarm.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County, Fulton Community Church, or the Andrew AMVETS.
