Carol L. Ripple, 85, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018, at her home in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A celebration of Carol's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, October 12, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 P.M., Thursday, October 11, 2018, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

Carol Lou Hinke was born on December 7, 1932 in Bellevue, Iowa, to Clarence Sr. and Lula (Keil) Hinke. She was a 1950 graduate of Maquoketa High School. She married Ronald Ripple on January 17, 1981 in Savanna, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2002.

Carol first worked for her parents at the Bon Ton Café in Maquoketa. She then worked various jobs including at the National Tea Grocery Store, Delfarm Store, Super Value Store, Clinton Engines and Clean Towel. She then drove a school bus for 18 years for the Maquoketa Schools, and later became the owner/operator of "The Depot Antiques and Collectibles" in Maquoketa. Lastly, she worked at Bluff Lake Catfish Farm in rural Maquoketa.

Carol was a collector of antiques and enjoyed going to garage sales, having coffee with friends, and bowling. She was famous for her homemade Ham Dumplings.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, twins Lynn (Julie) Hughes of Cedar Rapids, IA and Lori (Ritch) Skrivseth of Preston, IA, Mary (Marty) Hudrlik of Maquoketa, IA, and Kip (Tammy) Keehner of Dubuque, IA; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and 8 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ronald, brothers Clarence Hinke Jr. and Norm Hinke, a son Barry Hughes and his wife Mona, and a grandson Cale Hughes.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the Jackson County Humane Society, or Hospice of Jackson County.
