Obituary for Arleta L. (Weinschenk) Scheckel

Arleta L. (Weinschenk) Scheckel, 95, of Bellevue, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue.

Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Springbrook, Iowa. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. A visitation for Arleta will be from 4:00 pm – 7:00pm, Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue and again Thursday morning after 9:30 am, at the church.

Arleta was born October 5, 1922 in Springbrook, the daughter of Edwin and Clara (Tebbe) Weinschenk. She married Milton Scheckel on April 10, 1945, at Sts. Peter & Paul in Springbrook, he passed on February 22, 2015. Arleta enjoyed quilting, sewing, puzzle books, playing cards, and started painting at the age of 92. She was a religious woman who had her prayers she recited religiously.

Survivors include; three sons, Darwin (Michelle), of Silvis, Illinois, Larry (Shelley) and Marty (Jane), both of Bettendorf, Iowa; two daughters, Gail (Jack) Hanlon, of Maquoketa and Donna (Jerry) Metcalf, of Parkview, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Ashley Scheckel, Sherry (Rick) Bickford, Sheila (Brent) Pauls, Stacie (Chad) Steffen, Chad (Tiffany) Metcalf, Eric (Traci) Metcalf, Scott Metcalf, Brant (Simple) Scheckel, Lindsey (Justin) Thompson, Terry (Melissa) Kuehl, and Samantha (Matt) Woodcock; 21 great grandchildren, Aleshia (Matt) Abraham, Caide Steffen, Hailey, Taylor, Trevor Bickford, Kaleigh, Sydney, Brady, Emerson Pauls, Nireque Clayburne, Taijon, Maleko Scheckel, Drew, Logan, Sierra Metcalf, Megan Marchese, Chloe Metcalf, Maddox, Presley Thompson, Tyler, Allison Kuehl; 2 great-great grandchildren, Nora Jenkins, and Nahvi Clayburne; siblings, Clyde (Betty) Weinschenk and Leanna (Lester) Michels.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great grandchild, Hayden Pauls; and two brothers, Clifford and Carvel.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mill Valley Care Center for her care during this time.

In lieu of flowers, Arleta Scheckel Memorial Fund has been established.
