Richard W. "Dick" Hanson, 74, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Friday morning, September 21, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

A celebration of Dick's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Monmouth, Iowa Cemetery.

Richard Wayne Hanson was born on May 3, 1944 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Robert Willis and Neoma Lucille (Hardin) Hanson. He grew up in Maquoketa, attended Maquoketa schools and earned his GED. He married Mona Mohr and to this union two children were born, Janette and Brian. They divorced and he married Lois M. Carr on November 27, 1968 in Rock Island, Illinois, and together they had a daughter Michele. Lois preceded him in death on October 30, 1999. He later married Janet Usher Snyder on August 5, 2005 in Monmouth, Iowa.

Dick had first worked at Farmall in the Quad Cities for a short time. He then worked for the Jones County Highway Maintenance Department and transferred to Jackson County where he worked for 36 years retiring in 2006.

Dick was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club in Maquoketa. He enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Janet Hanson of Maquoketa, IA; children, Janette (Peter) Dunne of Baldwin, IA, Brian (Robin) Hanson of Shelby Township, MI, and Michele (Ed) Zilch of Davenport, IA; step-children, Jerry (Ruth) Potter of Rockford, MN, Terry Potter of Trinity, TX, Carolyn Potter of Monmouth, IA, Randy Potter of St. Louis, MO, Mike (Sherry) Snyder of Maquoketa, IA, Brenda (Kirk) Hayden of Robins, IA, and Teresa (Mark) Paine of Billings, MT; 4 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; 12 step-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren; a sister Mary (Sam) Caven of Baldwin, IA; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois, a brother Marvin (Ellen) Hanson, and a sister Esther (Dean) Rickels.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Richard W. "Dick" Hanson memorial fund has been established.
