Frances Marie Willey, 92, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died August 23, 2018, at the Maquoketa Care Center.

A celebration of Frances' life will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, August 27, 2018 at United Church of Christ in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 P.M. on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, and again on Monday at the church beginning at 10 A.M. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.

Frances was born on July 11, 1926 in rural Maquoketa to Jerry and Hilda (Atzen) Widel. She was the fourth of nine children and was raised in the Fulton, Iowa area.
Frances moved to Maquoketa when she entered high school and worked as what today would be called a nanny for Glen and Mildred Woods. She met her husband John Marvin Willey through the Woods', he worked for Glen on the Woods farm. They were married on March 8, 1944 in Maquoketa, Iowa. To this union six children were born, Rose, Jerry, Jack, Bob, Becky and Tim.

Frances worked at various restaurants in Maquoketa and was famous for her good-old-fashioned home cooking, most notably for her prize-winning pies and candies. Her last accomplishment professionally was opening her own restaurant, "Frances' Kitchen" at the United Livestock Sales Barn.

After retirement she enjoyed going to Euchre tournaments with friends and sitting at the Bridge Table trying for a Grand Slam. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, and the Maquoketa VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Frances is survived by her children, Rose Heiring of Dubuque, IA, Jerry (Marie) Willey of Castle Rock, CO, Jack (Marilyn) Willey of Maquoketa, IA, and Becky Wiese of Oxford Junction, IA; a brother Kenny (Alice) Widel of Maquoketa, IA; a sister Janice (Jerry) Edwards of Camanche, IA; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John Marvin Willey, sons Bob and Tim, daughter-in-law Connie Willey, sons-in-law Ralph Heiring and Richard Wiese, her parents and her siblings Frederick, James, Paul (Mary), Helen (Arnold) Meyer, Maxine (Stan) Anderson, Bernice (Jim) Frank, a grandchild Daniel Michel, and a great-granddaughter.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa.
