David J. Koppes, 61, of rural Monmouth, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 10:30 p.m., at home surrounded by his family.
Friends and relatives of David may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa where a wake service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m., Monday, August 13, 2018 at the Funeral home.
Services for David will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 13, 2018 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Temple Hill, Iowa with Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa.
He was born March 25, 1957 son of Raymond and Helen (Kelchen) Koppes. He attended the former Aquin High School in Cascade, Iowa and was in the class of 1975. On July 8, 1978 he was united in marriage to Judy Urbain at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Farley, Iowa. David started out his life farming. In 1984 he went to work for his brother, Chuck at Koppes Tiling. In 2005 he started his own business, Dave Koppes Construction. He reluctantly retired his bulldozer in 2012 due to health problems.
He was one–of-a-kind, he had a great sense of humor. He truly enjoyed visiting with friends and family when they would stop by to visit him out in his shop. He was a great husband, dad, grandpa and brother.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Parish in Temple Hill, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Koppes of Monmouth, IA; three children, Michelle (Matthew) Jennings of Cedar Rapids, IA, Stacey (Michael) Hines of Monticello, IA and Keith (Samantha) Koppes of Monmouth, IA; 7 grandchildren, Kyler and Elise Jennings, Noah and Nate Hines, Kelsey, Kole and Klara Koppes; 8 siblings, Lawrence Koppes of Dyersville, IA, Merlin Koppes of Cascade, IA, Carl (Donna) Koppes and Paul (Sandy) Koppes both of Monmouth, IA, Phyllis (Marv) Ludwig of Cuba City, WI, Donna (Jim) Schewe of Oxford Junction, IA, Marilyn Staskal of Maquoketa, IA and his twin brother, Dennis (Brenda) Koppes of Monmouth, IA; two sisters-in-law, Judy (Jim) Betzner and Marlene Koppes both of Cascade, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Chuck Koppes; and one sister-in-law, Lori “Pris”.
A special thanks to Jackson County Hospice and Dave’s nieces, Traci Parks and Tasha Foust, who took special care of him in his final days. We will be forever grateful for all of the love and support we received from all of our friends and family during this difficult time.
