William C. Short (1940-2018)

William C. "Bill" Short, 77, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at his home in Maquoketa, surrounded by his family.

A Natural Journey Farewell with Cremation has taken place. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.

William Charles Short was born on June 19, 1940 in Jackson County, Iowa, to Frank Delbert and Ruby Ellen (Price) Short. He was a 1959 graduate of Monmouth High School then took an electrical correspondence course through DeVry Technical Institute. He married Lois Lorraine Feuss on September 19, 1959 in Maquoketa, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Glenn, Steve and Tonya.

"Bill" and Lois had lived in Moline, Illinois for a few years and he first worked at John Deere, then Ametek in East Moline, and later for Nickols Wired Aluminum in Davenport. They then returned to Jackson County and lived in Monmouth where he owned and operated Short Electric from 1971 to 1988. Lastly, he worked for HOOF Products, S & H Fabricating, Bundy, and then at the Maquoketa Care Center until retirement. They had lived in Maquoketa for the past eight years.

"Bill" enjoyed square dancing, horseback riding, mechanical tinkering, reading western novels, and helping friends.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Lois Short of Maquoketa, IA; children Glenn (Jean) Short of Maquoketa, IA, Steve (Maggie) Short of Montezuma, IA, and Tonya (Brian) Current of Maquoketa, IA; 6 grandchildren, Nick Short, McKenzie Short, Amanda (Phil) Shinstock, Becky (Matt) Koch, Kristin Current, and Kaytlin Current; a great-grandchild, Emery Kay Shinstock; sisters, Darlene Wulf of Bremerton, WA, Mary (Don) Mitchell of Moline, IL, Pat (Bill) Pederson of St. Charles, MO, and Susan Bodenhofer of Monticello, IA; brothers, Wayne Short of IL, and Mark Short of NV; and a sister-in-law, Marian Short of Maquoketa, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roger and F. David Short, a sister Alice Brown, and a grandchild Kayla Lorraine Current.
