Martha was born June 25, 1920, in Green Island, the daughter of George and Emma (Mangler) Johnson. On June 25, 1944, Martha married Vernon Schwartz. They raised two children and celebrated 46 years of marriage.

Martha was known for her many talents, for always having a meal ready for company, and especially for her incredible baking. Since age 18, she has poured so much love and care into the delicious cakes and cookies she created for thousands of people throughout the years, continuing nearly until her passing. She and Vernon worked hard farming until his death in 1991. Martha shared with her family a love of spending time together, many memorable family holidays including treating her family to dinner at Bluff Lake each year for her birthday, and she was always up for a rousing game of cards. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters: Elsie, Lillian, and Marjorie, and four brothers: William, Glen, Alfred, and Clifton. Her spirit is carried on through her two children: Carol (Wayne) Johnson and Ronald (Susan) Schwartz; six grandchildren: Scott (Shari) Johnson, Kevin(Hollie) Johnson, Luke Schwartz, Jenni Schwartz, Matt (Kim) Schwartz, and Pam Schwartz; ten great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends too numerous to list, but not forgotten.
