Obituary for Velma Ringen
Velma Ringen, age 97, of Preston, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 7, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Preston. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Velma's memory.

Velma was born July 7, 1920, in Springbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Michael and Susan (Michels) Scholtes. She attended Bellevue Schools. On March 30, 1940, Velma married Elwood Ringen. They celebrated 48 years of marriage before Elwood's death on August 25, 1988.

Velma worked as a lab technician at Meinerz Creamery in Preston for over 25 years before retiring in 1986. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston. Velma enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and was an avid Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. She always cherished the time spent with her family.

Velma will be dearly missed by her daughter, Jolene (William) Ketelsen of DeWitt, Iowa; four grandchildren, Seth Ketelsen of DeWitt, Iowa, Michael (Darcy) Ringen of San Antonio, Texas, Bryan (Lisa) Ringen of Iowa City, Iowa, and Paula (Jack) Wenzel of Clinton, Iowa; ten great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Abby, Grace, Elise, and Remy Ringen, Megan and Nile Ringen, and Sarah, Erin, and Ty Wenzel; and a daughter-in-law, Lorayne Ringen. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elwood; a son, John Ringen; grandson, David Ringen; three brothers, Floyd Scholtes, Urban Scholtes, and Harold Scholtes; and five sisters, Bertha Pfiffner, Florence Dolter, Clarabelle Wilming, Dorothy Scholtes, and Imogene Lambert.
