Scott A. Barten, 48, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Mayo Clinic, St. Mary's Hospital Campus in Rochester, Minnesota.

A celebration of Scott's life will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Friday, March 9, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

Scott Alvin Barten was born on July 14, 1969 in Jackson County, Iowa, to Alvin Elmer and Vera Elaine (Bock) Barten. He was a 1987 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School. He married Veronica Staner on January 23, 1999 in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Scott worked in the automotive industry for over 25 years. Prior to becoming disabled, his last employment was as an auto technician for Thiel Motor Sales in DeWitt, Iowa.

Scott enjoyed every minute at any dirt track race across the Midwest with family and friends. After racing himself, he enjoyed helping his step-son Travis, and son Michael race around eastern Iowa. You could always find him at the Yankee, Supernationals, and any USMTS race. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing.

Those left to honor Scott's memory include his wife, Veronica Barten of Maquoketa, IA; son Michael (and his girlfriend Courtney Raes) Barten of Coralville, IA; a step-son, Travis (Brittani) Law of Mooresville, NC; his parents, Alvin and Vera Barten of Maquoketa, IA; a sister, Lori (Marvin) Massey of Maquoketa, IA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Scott A. Barten memorial fund has been established.
