Ronald A. Hankemeier, 64, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at his home in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Private graveside services and burial will be held at a later date from the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa. There is no visitation and cremation has taken place. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.

Ronald Arthur Hankemeier was born on February 19, 1950 in Andrew, Iowa, to Ardo H. and Doris M. (Thillmony) Hankemeier. He was a graduate of Andrew High School and later received his Associate of Arts degree from Clinton Community College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1968 until receiving his honorable discharge in 1972. He then returned home and married Dixie L. Eckelberg on August 9, 1975 in Maquoketa, Iowa. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2006.

Ronald had worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation from 1976 until retiring in December of 2009.

Ronald had been a member of the former Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Maquoketa and then First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. He had also been a member of Lutheran Brotherhood for many years.

He enjoyed being outside doing yard work, gardening and working on tractors. He loved watching the 3 Stooges, meteorology, tinkering with things and was always a farm boy at heart. He was known as a kind and generous good man who always put others first.

Those left to honor Ronald's memory include his children Jefferson Hankemeier of Minneapolis, MN, Joshua (Jeni Rizio) Hankemeier of Champaign, IL, and Amanda Hankemeier of Maquoketa, IA; a brother David Hankemeier of Maquoketa, IA; and a sister Linda (Randy) Duhme of Maquoketa, IA. He was preceded in death his parents and his wife Dixie.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Ronald A. Hankemeier memorial fund has been established.
