Linda Ward (1944-2017)

Linda Ward, 73, of Maquoketa, Iowa passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 28, 2017.

A private service will be held by her immediate family.

Linda was born on March 27, 1944 to Henry and Elfrieda (Will) Feuss in Lost Nation, Iowa. She was the 7th of 11 children. She attended Lost Nation High School and graduated in 1962. She married her first love, Richard Ward, on September 9, 1962 and moved to Monmouth, Iowa. She was a farm wife and homemaker and they were soon blessed with four children over the next 8 years. Roger (Anna) of Indio, CA; Sharon (Loren) Ditch of Branson, MO; Dennis of Ventura, CA; and Tammy (Eric) Brooks of Manchester, Iowa.

They moved to Wyoming, Iowa where they owned and operated a dairy farm and Linda worked at the Jackson County Pubic Hospital. In 1978 they settled in Maquoketa and opened Wa-Ka Restaurant, which she managed for eight years. When their children were grown, Linda became active in flower gardening, bird watching, and RV travel. She also worked as a cashier at Wal-Mart in Maquoketa.

Linda was given the title of Grandma to: Elizabeth, Gabriel, Devin, Addison, Mackenzie, Aaron, Kobe and Michael. She enjoyed spending time with them and teaching them to sew, cook, and enjoy nature. She enjoyed watching their activities, zip lining, water tubing, paint balling and eating homemade ice cream. Linda enjoyed her summers at Table Rock Lake as the families gathered for their vacations. She enjoyed traveling south for the winters and playing Dominoes with her fellow RV travelers. When Linda wasn't traveling, she was a volunteer with Jackson County Hospice and Master Gardeners.

Linda is remembered as having a kind and generous heart with a love for life. If she touched your life, she touched your heart.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

The family requests memorial contributions be directed to Jackson County Hospice in her honor.
