Margaret J. Gill, 87, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 27, 2017, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 P.M., Sunday, November 26, 2017, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Delmar, Iowa.

Margaret Jeanette Higgins was born on January 10, 1930 in Clinton, Michigan, to Claude and Margaret (Smith) Higgins. She was a graduate of Clinton, Michigan High School. She married John William Gill on August 2, 1952 in Waterloo, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Michael, Kimberly, and Brian.

Margaret had worked for Jackson Industries in Maquoketa as a production worker for many years, retiring at the age of 60. In retirement she became a self-employed painter working for over 20 years.

Margaret had lived in Delmar, and then moved to Andrew and then to Leisure Lake where they had a cabin for many years, and then to Maquoketa in 2008. She was a very artistic and charismatic person. She enjoyed gardening, wood working, landscaping, fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Mike (Donna) Gill of Delmar, IA, Kim (Steve Whitmore) Morehead of Delmar, IA, and Brian (Jan) Gill of Dubuque, IA; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Ben (Joan) Higgins of Maquoketa, IA, and Wendell (Bev) Higgins of Delmar, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John on January 19, 1974, and a sister Vera Patterson.
